OK, if I don't get the post about Costa Rica done today, I'll never get it done, as I'm back to work tomorrow and then to Nashville next weekend to see

The flight was uneventful, the first thing I remember thinking as we landed in San Jose was that the mountains looked like green crumpled paper that someone attempted to smooth out and I thought that was cool. More green than grey. Then I stepped off the plane, and the first thing I encountered was a fucking Cinnabon at the airport. Everything in English. It looked just like the US. I felt sickly disappointed.

To the taxi: crazy young driver named Omar. Passing many billboards on the highway on the way to Quepos. Mostly in English. Almost got carsick on the mountain roads. The roads we took, anyway, were not as scary as I'd been lead to believe. They were paved and had a few potholes in them, but nothing I couldn't have handled. No street lights, no sidewalks, and no road signs warning you that your turn's coming up, I can see why driving at night isn't recommended. There were also 2 scaaary bridges we had to pass over. Metal slats not held down by anything. Shaking. And that was just the bridge:

there were also crocodiles sunning themselves below one of the bridges!

Off to Costa Verde, our hotel for a few days.

View from our patio area:

We loved it there. Ten minute walk to the beach. Open air restaurants where monkeys, sloths, anteaters would come visit and try to steal your food. Gorgeous views. Laid back attitude. We went to the beach all day the day after travel day, fortunately my SPF 50 served me well.

The next day we went to Manuel Antonio National Park, which is a protected area where wildlife will come up and visit you! We had a fabulous guide, Miguel, who carried a telescope with him and we were able to get great photos by holding the camera up to the scope:

yes, that monkey is eating a green iguana tail first. yeppers.

it was great! next day: back to the beach, went out to the local dive. Had some drinks. There was good eye candy on the beach as well:

The next day we had to head to Pura Vida Spa to get the ladies started on their classes. That will be post number two!
